What in hell? - Some perspective, from an acclaimed brilliant mind

Jul. 28th, 2006 07:54 am Some perspective, from an acclaimed brilliant mind

So, I've been working here for a little over a month - five weeks, today. And while it's wonderful to have a salary, and enough "live-in-the-now" money, it's the future that I find brightest. I now have forty-five dollars in my 401k, which means that if I retire right now, I get forty-five dollars. That's pretty hefty.

I could retire now and have enough "pension" to treat three other people to dinner at The Olive Garden. And it would taste even better than normal, because it would be flavoured with success.

Truly a unique perspective! However, I believe you would be taxed on those forty-five dollars upon removal from said 401k, which means you'd only be able to treat, say, two and a half people. Unless you go to the Olive... PIT.

Okay, but the soonest I can set out to Concord-town would be sometime tomorrow, and given my current allergy crisis, I'm still convinced that that's not a very good idea. Maybe sometime in August?

For my own benefit, since emails I get at work can't be transferred to home, here's the bus link:

Yup! You'd be retiring before 65 and thus the taxes will come out. Why don't you take 10 friends out to coffee with your wealth instead!

OK, that's a good point you two make. So, I'll promise twelve of those dollars to some sort of bureaucrat, who will change my legal date of birth to July 4, 1941, so that not only would I already be 65, I'd also be some sort of amazing Super Patriot. I guess I'd also have him shave a half pound off of my birth weight, in the hopes that that would cause me to lose fifteen pounds or so today. Anyway, I could then use the remaining thirty-three dollars, now available sans taxation, to take two friends on a succulent Tour of Italy!

Also, we would probably sword-fight with the free breadsticks, because I am not a man of great class or propriety.
